Kokkolan Satama uses the Piiri app to reach all personnel quickly and effortlessly
Kokkolan Satama Oy's internal communication previously consisted of paper notes on the coffee room table, emails and infrequently organized personnel information meetings. Employees were not satisfied with the flow of information. With the Piiri application, which was introduced in the summer, messages can now be sent quickly and easily, and the threshold for communication is low.
Kokkolan Satama Oy is a significant provider of port and logistics services in the Kokkola area. The company plays an important role in the operations of companies in the large industrial area as well as in the logistics of SMEs in the area and companies in Central Finland. The handling of wind turbine components has also become a significant logistics entity.
— Kokkolan satama is a public port, meaning we are an open port for all customers, exporters and importers of goods. We offer, among other things, vessel services, crane services, storage services, special terminal services and comprehensive logistics solutions, says Vuokko Kalliokoski, Financial Manager of Kokkolan Satama.
A SIMPLE SOLUTION TO INTERNAL COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS
Kokkolan Satama is one of the five largest ports in Finland. The Group employs a total of just under 30 employees in various positions.
The reach of internal communications has been challenging in the company because not everyone works on a computer. There was a need for a simple solution that would improve the flow of information within the organization.
The Piiri application, which can be downloaded to your phone, was a perfect fit for their needs.
— Compared to communication via emails, the application is really easy to use and you can easily post news there. In Piiri you could easily warn about a slippery yard, for example, says Port Secretary Milla Vierimaa, who is one of the admin users of the application.
"The Piiri application is functional, easy to use and suits our needs well."
Kokkolan Satama did not have an intranet, and internal communication was previously handled through emails, paper notes and a few personnel information sessions a year. Feedback from personnel about ineffective communication in well-being surveys and coffee table discussions gave the impetus for testing the Piiri application.
The application was put into test use during the early summer and the feedback has been positive.
— It was clear that we would put the Piiri application into use. The mobile application is functional, easy to use and suits our needs well, says Vuokko Kalliokoski.

According to Vuokko Kalliokoski, providing information is about appreciating the staff. — It is important that every employee knows what's happening. Providing information helps avoid misunderstandings. The good thing about the application is that everyone receives the information at the same time and in the same way.
THE PIIRI APPLICATION SUPPORTS CRISIS COMMUNICATION NEEDS
Kokkolan Satama has currently collected personnel guides, safety guides, collective agreements and employee benefits, among other things, into the Piiri app. Not all features have been utilized yet.
— Piiri also makes it easier to get new employees on board, because they can immediately access the materials there, says Vuokko Kalliokoski praisingly.
You can easily add all events or conduct surveys in the application. A feedback channel is also necessary.
Kokkolan Satama also plans to use the application for crisis communication.
— There have been close call situations here, near the large industrial area. Piiri can also be utilized for crisis communications in the future, Kalliokoski plans.
